Our Mission Statement:
We accept the mission of Jesus...
To share, learn and love; nurturing the God-given gifts that make us unique.
St. Charles’ Voluntary Catholic Academy has served the local community on the present site since 1968 although records date back to 1890s. The school serves a diverse community across the city and is the Parish School for St. Charles’ Borromeo and West Hull parishes: many of our parents, grandparents and great-grandparents are former pupils.
It is our aim to support each pupil as they develop and thrive; educationally, socially, emotionally, physically and spiritually so that we fulfil our mission. We are firmly committed to becoming an outstanding school within the Diocese of Middlesbrough, working in partnership with each child’s family, since we believe that the family is a child’s first teacher.
From September 2014 the school follows the new national curriculum. You will find a link below to the document, published in 2013 which explains the new curriculum. Your child's class teacher has given you a copy of this on parent consultation day and, as in the past, we have regular opportunities for parents to see us working.
We work closely with our local schools, the Family of Catholic Schools in Hull, our Local Authority and with our Diocese so that we can make the best use of the resources we have:
We offer a wide range of sporting opportunities for all children at all levels of participation and have developed strong links with local sport clubs and our local sports college – St. Mary’s College. We routinely offer a wide range of out-of-hours clubs such as netball, football, badminton, hockey, street-dance and cheer-leading as well as our highly successful and over-subscribed Change-4-Life club.
We make good use of the City’s award winning music service and offer a range of musical opportunities: violin lessons, a steel-pan club, choirs, recorder club and guitar club.
We take our responsibility for formation very seriously and work closely with our Diocese and parishes to support the spiritual development of the children in our care; we welcome families of all faiths and families of no organised faith. We follow the Religious Education programme agreed by the Bishops of England and Wales for Catholic Schools – Come and See and play an active role in Parish life at St Charles Borromeo Church in Jarratt Street.
We welcome visits to our school and will be happy to arrange visits via our school office. Please contact us if you would like more information. I hope you find our website informative.
