St Charles' Voluntary Catholic Academy is part of the St Cuthbert's Roman Catholic Academy Trust and within the Dioceses of Middlesbrough.
As a Voluntary Catholic Academy, the Trust we are part of is responsible for admissions. It is guided in that responsibility by the requirements of the law, by advice from the Diocesan Trustees and its duty to the Catholic community and the Common Good. The school provides a Catholic education for children in the heart of Hull city centre, with priority being given to baptised Roman Catholic children living in the Hull parish of St. Charles Borromeo.
The school is of average size, with 209 pupils currently on roll. The children are between the ages of 3 and 11 years old and are taught in single class year groups from Nursery to Year 6. The admission number Foundation Stage to Year 6 is 30.
The school also has a 26-place nursery provision. This means that we will be able to provide 15 hours of universal funding a week of free childcare to children from the term after their 3rd birthday and from September 2017, 30 hours per week for parents who meet the criteria for extended funding. Sessions are available for purchasing for children who attend as soon as they have reached their 3rd birthday before funding starts the following term. Session patterns available are: x 5 mornings, x 5 afternoons or 2 full days and a morning or an afternoon session. Universal funded sessions will preside over extended funded sessions. Nurseries do not have catchment areas in the same way as schools, so once places are full, the school will signpost parents to other providers.
Although the law does not require children to be admitted to school until the beginning of the term following their fifth birthday, the Governing Body being the admissions authority for this school, will admit children into Foundation Stage 2 at the beginning of the Autumn Term following their fourth birthday if it is before 31st August. All admissions will be according to the criteria detailed in the full Admissions Policy which can be obtained from School.
In accordance with the Education Act 2005, children with any form of disability will have equal opportunity for admission to our school.
Parents are asked to note that admission to St Charles' Voluntary Catholic Academy is no guarantee of entry into St Mary’s College.
