Our Mission statement:
We accept the mission of Jesus… to share, learn and love; nurturing the God given gifts that make us unique. What did God make you for?
St Charles’ Voluntary Catholic Academy exists to help parents and carers educate children spiritually, morally, physically and academically as well as possible. We aim to be a truly Christian community, where our relationships are built on encouragement, concern, respect, forgiveness and reconciliation.
Our religious life is rooted in the faith, practice and moral teaching of the Roman Catholic Church. Each person in our community is specially valued and has an important part to play in making sure that we live out our mission.
All prayers plus additional prayers including the Rosary can be found in the school prayer book.
O my God I give to you, all that I think, or say, or do. All my work and all my happy play, I will give to you today. Amen
Grace before meals
Bless us O God as we sit together. Bless the food we eat today. Bless the hands that made the food. Bless us O God. Amen.
Grace after meals
Thank you God for the food we have eaten. Thank you God for all our friends. Thank you God for Everything. Thank you God. Amen.
Night Prayer - Foundation and Key Stage One
God Our Father, we come to say thank you for your love today. Thank you for my family and all the friends you give to me. Guard me in the dark of night. And in the morning send your light. Amen.
Night Prayer - Key Stage Two
O Father of goodness we thank you each one, for happiness, healthiness, friendship and fun. For good things we think of and good things we do. And all that is loving, beautiful and true. Amen.
Our Father who art in Heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy Kingdom come. Thy will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, And forgive us our trespasses, As we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation. But deliver us from evil. Amen.
Hail Mary, full of grace, The Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, Pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
At St Charles, we follow the diocese programme of study for the teaching of RE called ‘Come and See’. It has been written by experienced diocesan advisors and is a spiral curriculum in which the children build upon knowledge and skills learned in previous year groups.
Three topics are studied each term with each lasting 4 weeks and are built upon in subsequent terms. These cover:
· The church : Domestic, Local and Universal
· Sacramental : Baptism/Confirmation, Eucharist, Reconciliation,
· Liturgical: Advent/Christmas, Lent/Easter, Pentecost
Each unit also follows the same structure:
This allows the children to explore what they already know about a topic, including their own experiences, before building on this in the ‘Reveal’ section, where we explore the teachings of the Catholic faith and it’s implication on our lives as modern day Catholics. We then reflect upon the learning throughout the topic during the ‘Respond’ section of the unit.
As we live in a multiplicity society, there are also 2 weeks during which other world religions are studied, which enables the children to develop their own knowledge and respect of other religions.
- Judaism in Autumn
- Islam in Summer
Look out for the newsletter we send each term which will give you more information about what each year group will be covering.
