Who works here?
Our Teacher in Year 5 is Mrs Woodmansey, our Teaching Assistant is Mrs Attwood. They help us everyday during our lessons.
In Class 5, we are building and consolidating skills we have already learned and applying them to new situations. We are also having lots of opportunities out of the classroom to gain some real life experiences. The children enjoy having more responsibility in class 5 and love having a challenge.
Day in the life of class 5
Class 5 have a super attendance and when we get to school, get straight on with some morning work. We have literacy, numeracy and guided reading lessons in the morning. In literacy we have been looking at newspapers, play scripts, reports and persuasive writing we also do daily spelling and handwriting. In numeracy we use Big Maths to help us with our basic number skills and then apply this in context in the rest of the lessons. We are also having daily handwriting to help us improve our joined writing.
On a Wednesday we have a drumming music lesson with wider opportunities, which class 5 are getting really good at. In the afternoon we learn about our topic which covers geography, history, art, ICT, and science. We have also started learning French. We are receiving hockey coaching in PE and have been learning netball skills.
We follow the new national curriculum and we also use the International Primary Curriculum for our topic lessons. This term we are looking at settlements and within this we are looking at roman invaders. We will be having Topic exit points for parents to come in and share our lovely work and give them a chance to show what we have been learning.
Outside of School
We had a super trip to the museum starting to learn lots about the Romans, we looked at the beautiful mosaics and even did some roman shopping.
We have also been lucky enough to have an amazing weekend in London! We stayed overnight in the Natural History Museum sleeping with the dinosaurs. We crammed in lots of activities: we had a river cruise on the Thames, watched a 4D movie and did some sightseeing- it was great!
