Year 5

Who works here?

The year 5 class teacher is Miss Prior and our class teaching assistant is Mrs Attwood.

What is your classroom like?

Our classroom is buzzing with learning! We sit in rows of 4 or 6 facing the board, and have Topic, RE, English and Maths displays up around the classroom with our shared work and helpful hints for our learning. We have a Recognition board to celebrate our good behaviour, and have started a Times Tables rock Stars display to track our Maths Times tables progress!

Learning in Year 5

We have lots of exciting topic coming up in Year 5! In RE we are going to be starting our next topic looking at the Eucharist, and what it means to be a part of the memorial sacrifice of Jesus; in Maths we are going to be moving on to looking at fractions and in English we are going to be looking at character descriptions and developing our descriptive writing. Our Guided Reading book is Percy Jackson and the Lightening Thief, and we will be having lots of fun predicting what will happen and looking into the descriptions in the book.

What can the year 5 children do at home?

Year 5 pupils would greatly benefit from support at home, particularly in Maths, reading books and handwriting. It is important that the children are practicing their handwriting and times tables at home, as this will support their learning at school. We greatly encourage any work the children want to do at home that is in line with our learning at school.
